The Warwickshire Society of Referees Youth Academy has been setup to develop and monitor the progress of referees in the Warwickshire area under the age of 18. Ian Roberts manages the Academy as the Society's Training and Development Officer and is assisted chiefly by Andy Attwell. The Academy is supported by the Heart of England Building Society with their sponsorship funding the initial and subsequent training of the referees, their kit, the monitoring of their progress and transport to and from matches. Modern HD video recording equipment has also been purchased with the sponsorship money to aid with the improvement of the referees' performance at matches.
Academy Meeting 21 September 2009
A meeting has been arranged for all current and prospective Academy members at Stoke Park School, Dane Road, Coventry, CV2 4JW for 7pm on Monday 21 September 2009. All are welcome and Ian Roberts will explain the structure of the Academy and what it can offer young referees in the coming season. The meeting will last no more than 90 minutes and simple refreshments will be provided. If you would like to attend please contact Ian on academy@warwickref.com
October Society Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Society on Monday 26 October at Earlsdon RFC will see England's leading referee Wayne Barnes present shirts and kit to the Academy members. There will be an opportunity to talk to Wayne and have your photos taken for inclusion in the local and national press. Wayne will be addressing the Society on his experiences in the World Cup and his more recent exploits in New Zealand and Australia.
